The Oscars Edition

It was definitely an eventful Sunday night. Just when I thought the Academy Awards were going to give me almost nothing to talk about, the biggest fail in the history of the awards show happened.

Let’s get it!

Hot Mess #1: The Academy Awards for ruining Moonlight‘s moment

Whether you watched the Academy Awards a.k.a. the Oscars last night or not, you probably heard about the chaos that ensued on stage after La La Land was accidentally announced as the winner of Best Picture. The worst part was that producers did not correct the error until several thank you speeches later. Yikes…

So what happened?

giphy-2.gif

Well, when Warren Beatty opened the envelope, he gave the audience the most confused expression ever. He saw that the card read “Emma Stone – La La Land.” Seeing as though Emma Stone cannot be a Best Picture winner, it should have been obvious that the name on the card did not make sense….

Instead of alerting producers that he had the wrong card, however, Beatty decided to hand it over to his co-presenter, Faye Dunaway. Thinking nothing of Beatty’s confusion, Faye went on to read “La La Land” to the audience. #FAIL

Luckily for us, we had one of the gracious La La Land producers correct the error after giving his own acceptance speech for an award that he did not win.

Honestly, this was just such a fail on SO many levels. Firstly, how did Warren Beatty get the wrong card? Secondly, why did it take producers so long to fix the problem? Lastly, why did Moonlight‘s shining moment have to be tarnished???

The good news is the Academy clearly took last year’s hashtag, #OscarsSoWhite, to heart and created an awards show that was more inclusive of diverse talent and thought. It was also nice to see Moonlight take home the gold. Moonlight is not only a Black independent film, but it’s also a movie that centers on a member of the LGBTQ community. And, despite the debacle overshadowing its win in the moment, Moonlight will go down in history as one of the best films of all time.

Congrats to director and writer, Barry Jenkins, and the entire cast and crew!

p.s. Shout out to Moonlight‘s Janelle Monae for her red carpet look.

She’s been killing it all awards season long, but this dress definitely stole the show. #Fire

Moving on….

Hot Mess # 2: Jimmy Kimmel for not recovering quickly after the Best Picture mix-up

As bad as it was to watch Warren Beatty fumble around the Oscar stage last night, it was almost worse watching Jimmy Kimmel. Instead of really poking fun of the Best Picture situation, Jimmy looked incredibly uncomfortable saying “Personally, I blame Steve Harvey for this.”

For those who don’t remember, Steve Harvey accidentally announced the wrong winner of the Miss Universe pageant back in 2015.

Double yikes….

Although Jimmy Kimmel’s “joke” was spot on, you could tell in his voice that he was absolutely mortified the entire time.

Personally, I just really wanted someone to sing the words “City of Fails” into the mic using the melody from La La Land‘s “City of Stars.” It would’ve been peeeeerfeeeect!

Okay, maybe it just would’ve been perfect for me….lol

Hot Mess #3: Whoever told every single man at the Oscars to wear a navy jacket

Like, look at this….

Trust me, I could go on and on with the blue tuxedo pics from last night, but I’m already bored…lol

Anyways, I vote The Rock for best dressed mostly because he reminded me of the following clip from Coming To America

If you don’t know, then you better go find out. 😉

Anyways, the last thing I’m going to say is that I want to be friends with Gary From Chicago.

Thanks to Jimmy’s Oscars skit, Gary, a regular man, went straight from a Hollywood tourbus to taking photos with Mahershala Ali’s Oscar trophy and being married by Denzel Washington.

Truly the highlight of everyone’s night! #GaryFromChicago

Balloons!

Sometimes I question why I choose Monday nights to blog. Then, I realize that Mondays can be rough and so it’s best to set the tone for the week. Well, hopefully… Let’s get it!

Hot Mess #1: Hollywood for still not understanding #OscarsSoWhite

la-et-oscarssowhite-see-how-it-didn-t-have-to-be-this-way-vid-20160122.jpg

In the weeks leading up to the Academy Awards, the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite trended on Twitter. It was a direct result of the lack of diversity seen across the nominations for various categories, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and so on. The Twitter chatter was so loud that Chris Rock, who hosted the awards ceremony, had to address the diversity conversation live.

Needless to say, that didn’t turn out so well. Remember when Stacy Dash, the one actress who’s probably lost her “Black card,” walked out on the stage…

Yeah…Anyways, apparently, Hollywood still hasn’t gotten the memo about the need for more diverse representation on the screen, giving roles written about people of color to white actors.

Luckily for us, we have talented POC individuals like Constance Wu, who stand up to the ridiculousness that is Hollywood. Constance stars in ABC’s “Fresh Off The Boat,” a hit comedy about an Asian-American family, and has been very vocal about Hollywood’s diversity problem.

Yup, I’ll let you guys read that one for yourselves…Sigh, when will Hollywood ever learn? Audiences are craving for diversity. Just give it to us! lol

Hot Mess #2: Donald Trump for being too lazy to educate himself

donald-trump

Honestly, I really don’t have that much against Donald Trump (I’m going to ignore his racist, chauvinist comments for a second. Bear with me.) More than anything, my real issue with Trump is the fact that he almost refuses to learn anything outside of his own outrageous opinions.

Trump says Putin is ‘not going to go into Ukraine’

Trump’s questionable stance on both domestic and foreign affairs is quite scary. The good news is Russia will not be going into the Ukraine because it already has…#AMess

Hot Mess #3: Anyone who has nothing better to do than bash Malia Obama

ct-malia-obama-lollapalooza-20160729-1.jpg

Over the weekend, Malia Obama chose to have fun at Lollapalooza instead of  hanging out at the DNC, a decision that all teenagers probably would have made. But, of course, the haters are going to hate and talk about everything from her attire to her dance moves to the fact that she passed on the DNC.

Well, news Fl-A-sh. One, Malia is a teenager wearing typical teenage clothes, doing typical teenage things. Two, she’s not running for office and her whole life has been nothing, but one long speech after another. So, let’s let the girl live.

Hot Mess #4: Bill Clinton for probably loving balloons more than U.S. citizens

bill-clinton-dnc-balloons-4

Even though Malia did not watch the DNC, I, along with the rest of America, chose to witness the A-mazingness that was Bill Clinton playing with balloons.  Who knew that Bill could be THAT happy?

In the words of Ludacris, “Balloons!” lol
