Hallelujah Herre

A lot has happened this past week, and I really don’t know where to begin… My brain is starting to hurt, and I’m wondering if that’s from the latest news reports or from my lack of sleep… Alas, trying to work a campus recruitment job while being understaffed is proving to be rough on my sleep schedule, but I am determined to write! lol

Okay, let’s get it…

Hot Mess # 1: The 2016 Emmys for not including Christina Grimmie

how-to-watch-the-emmys-d2c60f62-c863-4ca0-a6e6-6cc06edbe7a0

Last night marked the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. All of our favorite stars were out in full force to honor the achievements of those in television, including host Jimmy Kimmel.

Although there were plenty of happy highlights (i.e. several people of color, including Sterling K. Brown and Rami Malek, took home major awards in the supporting and lead actor categories), there was also one major “oversight” by the Television Academy.

During the In-Memoriam segment, the late singer, Christina Grimmie, was left out of the montage. Christina was the Youtube sensation turned The Voice finalist who was fatally shot in the head by a fanatic back in June.

Noticing her absence during the clip, outraged fans immediately took to social media. In response to the backlash, the Emmys released a statement explaining that there wasn’t enough time to include everyone in the montage and that a complete list of those who have passed could be found on their website.

In all honesty, I think it’s pretty wack of the Emmys to exclude Grimmie. She was definitely one of the most memorable contestants ever on The Voice and was a force on Youtube. Not to mention, The Voice actually won an award last night for Best Reality-Competition Program, which again begs the question, “Why no Grimmie?” One would think that the show’s win coupled with the horrific details around Grimmie’s murder would be enough to get her into the live montage.

Needless to say, I am a little disappointed in the show’s producers. Maybe they’ll get it right next year.

On a brighter note, if you’d like to see the complete list of Emmy winners,

Jimmy Kimmel was also a great host. Shout out to Jimmy. 🙂

Hot Mess # 2: Tori Kelly for magically popping up on every awards show…

003.jpg

Now, I’ve been thinking this for quite some time, but how is it that a girl with no hits is always performing at every awards show???

Tori Kelly Sings Hallelujah

Don’t get me wrong. Tori Kelly has a beautiful voice. However, she has no singles. Well, correction. She has singles that not that many people pay attention to. The Billboard charts don’t lie…

With that said, Tori has managed to build a strong career out of performing at literally every major awards ceremony from the Grammys to the Emmys….And now, I really want to know how and why she gets these gigs.

The best person I can compare her to is Jennifer Hudson, who performs everywhere without a successful album. The difference, however, is that Jennifer has won an Oscar and has starred in hit movies like Sex In The City.

Anyways, I just want someone to explain to me how this American Idol reject (harsh, I know, but true) has managed to get this much shine. Please explain. Please and thank you.

Hot Mess # 3: Clare Danes for making the classic spray tan mistake

Honestly, I don’t have much more to say outside of showing this picture, but I do wonder if celebrities realize how orange they are until the blogs. Like this is so orange that people began to compare the actress to Donald Trump. #Ouch

Side note: I was going to put Donald Trump on this list for remarks about the Chelsea bomber in New York, but I don’t want to give him too much shine.

Hot Mess # 4: Nelly’s fans for streaming his music to pay off his tax debt

nelly-2002-billboard-650x430.jpg

After learning that Nelly owed the IRS $2.4 million, fans vowed to pay back the rapper’s debt in music streams. Some people even figured out the exact number of times “Hot in Herre” would have to be streamed in order to free the rapper completely of his debt.

I know I put this story on my Hot Mess list, but I’m actually not sure if it’s a hot mess or just funny. I mean, who thought that Nelly still had so many devout followers?

Personally, I wonder where these “fans” were for his last few singles…But you know, that’s just me…   Nelly’s Hot In Herre Sees Spike

People always A-maze me…

Monday Meow

Sadly, I don’t think I’m going to make this Monday deadline. Therefore, while I fight the yawns to finish a blog post, I’m going to leave everyone with another cat meme.

This was almost me today when I was talking about the stupid people at my job before running into my manager in the cafeteria. Whoops…

Also, whenever I’m late, maybe I’ll just post a cat meme. It seems like a reasonable solution…lol

To Stand Or Not To Stand

I’ve taken a little bit of a hiatus. I was touring Italy and getting my entire life. Now, I’m fortunate enough to be back in New York… Yay?

Sigh, let’s get it… ha

Hot Mess #1: Kate Upton for reckless tweeting

kate-upton

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about the protest of Colin Kaepernick. The star quarterback of the SF 49ers is refusing to stand for the U.S. national anthem, which happens to play at the beginning of every professional football game.

Kaepernick’s decision is sparking numerous debates on whether or not the act is disrespectful.

kaepernick-anthem.jpg

I understand the different arguments. For some, standing during the national anthem is a way to honor those who fought for the freedoms of this country and around the world. So, if someone refuses to stand, it could be seen as an ultimate lack of respect for veterans and military in particular. For others, however, the national anthem is not a song that represents the freedoms of all Americans, so declining to stand is more of an acknowledgement of this fact.

Whatever your feelings toward the national anthem, I think it’s important that we all educate ourselves on 1) the history behind the song and 2) the true intention behind those refusing to stand.

In response to the kneeling of Miami Dolphins’ players yesterday, model Kate Upton tweeted, “This is unacceptable. You should be proud to be an American. Especially on 9/11 when we should support each other,” followed by a picture of the protest.

Although I can understand Kate Upton’s stance, I think we should acknowledge the respect that players did show to all those who braved 9/11. The players stood during the 9/11 tribute, and only knelt during the actual playing of the national anthem. In addition, their kneeling is meant to be a gesture that honors military (as opposed to completely sitting) while also standing up for what’s right.

Personally, I just think that the Kate Uptons of the world are not ready for the Black resistance that’s been growing these last few years. With incidences like Travon Martin and Eric Garner being recorded every day and posted to social media, the anger of Black Americans and people of color has finally tipped the scale. People have had enough and America is only feeling divided because of how “loud” minorities are starting to become.

Let’s be honest. Most Blacks and people of color have always been “woke” in this country, but we haven’t always been collectively this vocal. Now, everyone is starting to give zero f&*ks, and quite frankly, I think it’s making many Americans a little uncomfortable.

Maybe that’s a good thing?

p.s. I encourage everyone to learn their U.S. history. It’s fine to debate, but we should all understand the complexities of the national anthem. Slavery and the national anthem: The surprising history

Not to mention, if anyone is to be truly pissed in this country, it should be the Native Americans. Stripped of everything and slaughtered, they’ve had it pretty rough and still have to continue to put up with America’s b.s.

Anyways, we are all arguing over the national anthem, but it’s not even the best song to represent this country. Personally, I think “America The Beautiful” should be the anthem. #Justsayin #RIPRay

Hot Mess #2: Anyone coming for Hillary Clinton

g8-pa5ka

During a 9/11 ceremony yesterday, Hillary Clinton grew ill and almost collapsed. Part of Hillary’s health scare was captured on camera, and had many wondering about the presidential candidate’s overall health. Now, it’s been reported that Hillary is recovering from pneumonia and dehydration. #scarystuff

Hillary Falls Ill

Although it’s understandable that people are concerned, I think that we should all focus more on Hillary actually getting better and less on this being a sign of her “weakness” as a candidate. Yes, the Clinton campaign probably could be managing Clinton’s health better, but I do not take one scare as a sign of her being unfit to lead this country.

I mean, just look at what she’s accomplished! lol

To be honest, both presidential candidates are old and could drop dead at any moment (harsh, but true). Let’s just choose to send them both well wishes and hope that they have many more years ahead of them.

Hot Mess #3: Malia Obama’s trash friends for being trash

malia-obama-e1449128020210.jpg

I won’t spend too much time on this, but recently, Malia Obama has been “lucky” enough to be caught in a series of photos showing her around drugs and alcohol.

Now, I’m not really here to be the photo police, but I find it interesting that there’s always a leaked photo of the President’s daughter on Snapchat…

Malia Obama plays beer pong

Malia isn’t doing anything out of the norm for a teenager. However, it bothers me that more and more we are starting to see photos of her simply trying to lead a regular life on social media. And, all this does is prove that random heifers and “friends” cannot be trusted…

Thank God Malia will be out of the White House next year and can live her gap year in peace. I can only imagine trying to grow up under a microscope…At least the Obamas always appear to be supportive of their daughter.
