Hallelujah Herre

A lot has happened this past week, and I really don’t know where to begin… My brain is starting to hurt, and I’m wondering if that’s from the latest news reports or from my lack of sleep… Alas, trying to work a campus recruitment job while being understaffed is proving to be rough on my sleep schedule, but I am determined to write! lol

Okay, let’s get it…

Hot Mess # 1: The 2016 Emmys for not including Christina Grimmie

Last night marked the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. All of our favorite stars were out in full force to honor the achievements of those in television, including host Jimmy Kimmel.

Although there were plenty of happy highlights (i.e. several people of color, including Sterling K. Brown and Rami Malek, took home major awards in the supporting and lead actor categories), there was also one major “oversight” by the Television Academy.

During the In-Memoriam segment, the late singer, Christina Grimmie, was left out of the montage. Christina was the Youtube sensation turned The Voice finalist who was fatally shot in the head by a fanatic back in June.

Noticing her absence during the clip, outraged fans immediately took to social media. In response to the backlash, the Emmys released a statement explaining that there wasn’t enough time to include everyone in the montage and that a complete list of those who have passed could be found on their website.

In all honesty, I think it’s pretty wack of the Emmys to exclude Grimmie. She was definitely one of the most memorable contestants ever on The Voice and was a force on Youtube. Not to mention, The Voice actually won an award last night for Best Reality-Competition Program, which again begs the question, “Why no Grimmie?” One would think that the show’s win coupled with the horrific details around Grimmie’s murder would be enough to get her into the live montage.

Needless to say, I am a little disappointed in the show’s producers. Maybe they’ll get it right next year.

On a brighter note, if you’d like to see the complete list of Emmy winners,

Jimmy Kimmel was also a great host. Shout out to Jimmy. 🙂

Hot Mess # 2: Tori Kelly for magically popping up on every awards show…

Now, I’ve been thinking this for quite some time, but how is it that a girl with no hits is always performing at every awards show???

Tori Kelly Sings Hallelujah

Don’t get me wrong. Tori Kelly has a beautiful voice. However, she has no singles. Well, correction. She has singles that not that many people pay attention to. The Billboard charts don’t lie…

With that said, Tori has managed to build a strong career out of performing at literally every major awards ceremony from the Grammys to the Emmys….And now, I really want to know how and why she gets these gigs.

The best person I can compare her to is Jennifer Hudson, who performs everywhere without a successful album. The difference, however, is that Jennifer has won an Oscar and has starred in hit movies like Sex In The City.

Anyways, I just want someone to explain to me how this American Idol reject (harsh, I know, but true) has managed to get this much shine. Please explain. Please and thank you.

Hot Mess # 3: Clare Danes for making the classic spray tan mistake

Honestly, I don’t have much more to say outside of showing this picture, but I do wonder if celebrities realize how orange they are until the blogs. Like this is so orange that people began to compare the actress to Donald Trump. #Ouch

Side note: I was going to put Donald Trump on this list for remarks about the Chelsea bomber in New York, but I don’t want to give him too much shine.

Hot Mess # 4: Nelly’s fans for streaming his music to pay off his tax debt

After learning that Nelly owed the IRS $2.4 million, fans vowed to pay back the rapper’s debt in music streams. Some people even figured out the exact number of times “Hot in Herre” would have to be streamed in order to free the rapper completely of his debt.

I know I put this story on my Hot Mess list, but I’m actually not sure if it’s a hot mess or just funny. I mean, who thought that Nelly still had so many devout followers?

Personally, I wonder where these “fans” were for his last few singles…But you know, that’s just me…   Nelly’s Hot In Herre Sees Spike

People always A-maze me…

Pray For The Grimmies and Orlando

Without question, this weekend taught us just how fragile life can truly be. In a matter of moments, it can be taken away from us forever.

For today’s post, I won’t list who I think has been the most hot mess. Instead, I will simply reflect on the unfathomable events of this past weekend. Let’s begin…
I’ve followed YouTube star, Christina Grimmie, for years. She was a high school student with a dope haircut and voice of an angel. Over time, Christina’s voice would gain her millions of followers on YouTube and a top spot on NBC’s The Voice.

After placing third on The Voice, Christina continued to pursue her love for music, touring all over the country. Then, her dream abruptly came to an end this weekend when an unknown gunman, now identified as Kevin Loibl, approached the singer after a concert and opened fire.

To say that Christina’s death is an absolute tragedy would be an understatement. The thought of some random twenty-something (in this case Kevin) traveling 100 miles just to kill someone is beyond baffling. It’s also a cruel reminder of the world we live in and that no one is safe. If someone can do this to Christina Grimmie, then someone can do this to any of us…which brings me to the other tragedy at an Orlando gay nightclub where at least 50 people were shot dead….

Again, I try to stay away from the politics, but there’s no reason why anyone in this country should be able to pack multiple guns, rounds, and a knives without being tracked for life. Something’s got to give and I’m sorry, but this isn’t 1776. We live in a different time where murders are happening due to the accessibility of guns.

In addition to guns, we also need to do something to address mental health and hatred as well… We can blame the lack of gun control laws all we want to, but at the end of the day, it takes a certain mind to pull the trigger.. Orlando Gunman

To avoid getting upset any further, I’ll simply say R.I.P. Christina Grimmie and everyone else who lost their lives this weekend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families. #stayblessedstaysafe
